Area highlights include:

Sugarloaf/USA: At 4,237 feet, Sugarloaf Mountain is second in elevation to Mount Katadin, Maine's highest mountain.  The summit of Sugarloaf offers the only lift serviced above - tree line skiing in the Northeast. In 2007, there were 54 miles of marked trails, and a total of 651 acres of developed trails, with 1,400 acres of skiable area boundry to boundary. Fifteen chairlifts are capable of serving up to 21,180 skiers per hour.  Currently there are 134 marked trails and glades, most of which are named after logging terms in tribute to Maine's Logging History. The Sugarloaf Touring Center caters to cross country skiers and is host to numerous world class races. 

Cathedral Pines: This parcel of Maine woods  offers untracked trails through historic tall Norway Pines along Flagstaff Lake while providing visitors a chance to see moose, deer and soaring eagles.

Saddleback Mountain: Saddleback, second to Sugarloaf and just minutes away, boasts 2000 vertical feet of skiing. Offering 60 trails and glades serviced by 5 lifts, the mountain has a top lift elevation of over 4000 feet. This ski area is a privately owned mountain with a big heart. A great alternative to todays large resorts.

The Black Fly Loop Maine Snowmobile Trails: "The Loop" circles the heart of Franklin County, connecting the spokes that comprise more than 300 miles of well groomed mountain trails extending north through Eustis, Canada, Jackman and The Forks, west to Rangeley, Oquossoc and New Hampshire, east to Carrabasset Valley, Sugarloaf, Kingfield, and North New Portland and south to Farmington, Wilton, and Weld Maine.  The Black Fly Loop has the widest variety of snowmobile trails available in the east and is considered to be one of the top 40 Hot Spots in the U.S. and Canada to ride.

Hiking: Hikers from all over the world come to hike our mountains in winter and summer. Our most famous hike is the Appalachian Trail which crosses the county and climbs the back side of Sugarloaf and the Crocker Cirque. Fabulous lookouts abound on the Bigalow Range offering views of the Canadian Mountains, Kennebago Mountain, Sugarloaf, Saddleback, and, on a clear day, Mt. Katadin (150 miles away). Rangeley and Flagstaff Lakes: These beautiful lakes offer snowmobiling, skating, ice fishing,  ice sailing and spectacular photographic opportunities. The area plays host to a myriad of popular winter events including Rangeley's Snodeo and Flagstaff's Polar Blast.
